"......did not want to impose the technologies on the workers as well, after seeing how badly they had struggled when learning to use the POS system there."

"The machine was bought in 2017, but it had laid there unused for three years as the workers continued to take orders using paper, unconvinced that they could take to the new processes well."

“I had no time to implement things. I did think of bringing onboard Swee Kee to Oddle (a food delivery platform)... Then again, I wonder if they can get used to looking at the (printed) bills and facilitating the takeaways when they had not experienced it before,” he said."

As I read these sentences from the article, I couldn't help but wonder if things would have changed if the restaurant had insisted that all employees, especially the older ones, undergo necessary training and made it a standard operating procedure to use the technologies. By not shunning away from the harsh truths that they are becoming irrelevant and managing the resistance from employees, equipping them with skills would have prepared the restaurant for the pandemic.

Technology will always be around and is constantly evolving to better our quality of life. Unless we adopt a Growth Mindset, we will always be struggling to find our footing in the ever-changing fast paced society.

Humans are generally not very good with changes and resistance to change is expected. It is part of the process of learning anything new. Businesses need to put aside any mentality of "not wanting to upset anyone" or "worry that they can't cope with the change" if they want to thrive. Unless we innovate, we cease to exist.

Humans may not be good with changes, but we are highly adaptable. Given time, anyone will appreciate being "forced" to learn skills that helps them to stay relevant.
